Perpetual Motion Dance is a modern and aerial dance company based in Oklahoma City with a mission to “create, develop and inspire innovative dance.” They blend post modern and aerial dance techniques with a signature grace and technical ingenuity to create dance on all planes. Perpetual Motion Dance is in their 16th season of creating annual original concerts in addition to regional and national touring.
The recent original concerts of Perpetual Motion Dance include “Quinze” (2017), excerpts performed at Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return, “Wanderlust” (2016), performed at the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center in Oklahoma City and the Oklahoma State University Seretean Theater in Stillwater, OK; “Fault Line” (2015), a collaboration with Perpetual Motion Dance, welder Joey Smith and video animation artist Kyle Van Osdol, performed at the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center in Oklahoma City, Tulsa SummerStage (June 2015) and the Houston Fringe Festival (awarded Best Dance Performance in Festival); KINETIC (2014) performed at the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center in Oklahoma City and an excerpt performed at the National Performance Network annual conference; and “Water Won’t Wait” (2013) performed at the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center in Oklahoma City, ReCreation Studios in Little Rock, AR, and “Live at the Crossroads” in Kansas City.
In addition to presenting original concerts and tours, Perpetual Motion Dance is committed to educating both adults and youth through classes, workshops, and residencies. In August 2006, Perpetual Motion organized the first annual Oklahoma Contemporary Dance Festival, which brings together regional choreographers with performers of all ages and backgrounds.
Michelle Moeller is the director and founder of Perpetual Motion Dance and Chair of the Department of Dance at the University of Central Oklahoma. Her performance and choreography have been part of numerous concerts and festivals, including the Houston Fringe Festival, ROGUE in Fresno, CA, Tulsa SummerStage, Live at the Crossroads in Kansas City and the New Genre Festival in Tulsa. As a freelance choreographer, Ms. Moeller’s unique aesthetic sensibilities have been sought after for commissioned works by Oklahoma City Ballet for their Future Voices project, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University, and Muscle Memory Dance Theater. Ms. Moeller is an Assistant Professor in Dance at the University of Central Oklahoma where she received her BA in Dance Education. She completed her Master of Fine Arts in Dance at Texas Woman’s University where she was awarded the Excellence in Choreography scholarship. As Director of Perpetual Motion Dance, Michelle has produced 15 original concerts most recently “Wanderlust,” “Fault Line,” and “Water Won’t Wait.” She has participated in several public school residencies and after school programs and served as a coordinator and teaching artist for the “Dancewise” project, a dance education program for the Putnam City School District in Oklahoma City. In 2013, she was recognized as one of Oklahoma’s “40 Under 40” by Oklahoma Magazine for her contributions to the arts landscape of Oklahoma. Ms. Moeller is continually striving to fulfill the Perpetual Motion mission of creating a collaborative network of artists to establish and sustain a unique multidisciplinary arts performance and education program for the community.
